Overview
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or otherwise known as ACT is a unique model for both therapy and coaching, based on the use of mindfulness and values. The aim of ACT is to maximize human potential for a rich, full and meaningful life; to help individuals progress toward vitality and well-being through mindful values-based living.
Contents of Workshop
The six core principles of ACT
- An understanding of mindfulness and psychological acceptance
- Use of metaphor and experiential exercises
- How to apply ACT in your own life, to create a sense of vitality, meaning and fulfilment
- How to access and experience a transcendent sense of self
- How to fundamentally change relationship with unwanted thoughts and feelings
- How to connect with core values, and take committed action
Facilitator
Dr. Urmila Pillay
She is a member of the British Psychological Society and is a practicing Chartered Clinical Psychologist in West London, UK. She graduated from Bangalore University with a Masters in Clinical Psychology and completed her M.Phil in Clinical Psychology in NIMHANS, Bangalore. She was awarded the Overseas Research Scholarship to pursue her Ph.D in Social Psychology in Brunel University, UK. Her areas of work experience include neuropsychological assessments and evaluation, and working with trauma and psychosis patients. Her practice includes the use of CBT, mindfulness and ACT. She has also played the role of an academician and a researcher during her career.
