Psychological First Aid and Barefoot Counselling

Aim

To empower faculty, mentors, senior managers and professionals in Psychological First Aid (PFA) to support juniors, students and mentees, towards their mental health.

Objective

To train in psychological first aid using process-oriented counselling skills involving both theoretical and practical approach.

Expected Outcome:

Those trained will understand the basic concepts of PFA and components of mental health, different approaches, would be able to listen, empathize, paraphrase, explore unhelpful thoughts and feelings of client, identify unhealthy coping strategies and educate client on healthy ways of coping in a step-by-step manner. They would be able to decide which method to use when. The clients are made aware of well-being goals and are guided on strategies to work on their issues.

Improve self-compassion and psychological flexibility. Reduce professional stress and burnout for the team members. Screen and identify team members at risk and preliminary support before referrals and further management. PFA has been found helpful in subsequent management of PTSD .

They will be able to address those going through trauma or grief and who experienced a crisis temporarily until help arrives.

Dr. Keerthi Pai

She is a Clinical Psychologist and a CBT Practitioner has an experience of over 17 years as Clinical Psychologist. She completed her M.Phil. In Clinical Psychology in Applied Psychology and PhD in Applied Psychology, where her topic was CBT in adolescents. She has published several articles related to CBT in peer reviewed journals. She is a trained in CBT by Mr. Joseph who charted CBT Practitioner, Australia. She is a Consultant Clinical and Neuro Psychologist in Apollo group of hospitals, Chennai and also the managing partner of Element H Psychological Support Services. 

Dr. Sandhya Rani Ramadas

She is a Counselling Psychologist and Organizational Psychologist. More than 15 years of experience. ACA certified Supervisor, Australia.

    Method

    • The training program will span over 3-4 hours distributed into 1.2 sessions or as feasible.
    • Each session will have a mix of theory and practicum.
    • Practice sessions, supervision are conducted, and feedback will be provided for skill development.
    • The program is conducted in the online mode and soft copies of worksheets and handouts will be provided.
