Counselling for stress at work as well as home aims at identifying the causes of a patient’s stress. Stress is an inevitable part of modern age. If untreated it may lead to reduction in the individual’s health, well-being and socio-economic situation, ultimately hampering efficiency. It is a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demand exceeds the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilise. It is a complex process that is turned on by a physical or mental threat to an individual’s homeostasis comprising a set of diverse psychological, physiological and behavioural responses.

Stress reflects through mood swings, irritability, accelerated speech, nail-biting, restlessness, nervousness and poor confidence levels amongst others. Yoga and meditation, physical exercise, entertainment, sufficient sleep, positive thinking, proper time management are some of the commonly used tools to handle stress. Therefore, a proper assessment, management and treatment of stress is very necessary.
